The Sweets & Snacks Expo opened in Chicago yesterday to large crowds looking to satisfy their collective sweet tooth.  The Ferrara Candy Company unveiled a beautiful new exhibit that attracted attention with its bright colors and eye-catching videos.  But they also got attendees interacting with their brand on a social media level as well.

Exhibit Idea: Transparent Smart Window for Product Displays

We were recently approached to build some product displays that incorporate a new interactive technology by Samsung.  Unveiled at at CES, it is called the Transparent Smart Window.  It is a touchscreen computer screen that you can see through.

Social Media and Exhibit Houses: What Surprised Me at the EDPA Meeting

This past Thursday I attended the Exhibit Designers & Producers Association event titled “Growing your business through Social Media.”  About half way through, I realized that this event could last many more hours and we would have barely scratched the surface.  As a result, there were a lot of unanswered questions, and I got the feeling that some people were more confused when they left than when they showed up.  What was particularly missing was how this all ties back to us as trade show professionals.

There were in fact many good points presented that night, but there simply wasn’t enough time in one event for such a new and dynamic topic.  I certainly do not have all of the answers, as I am just now putting both feet into the Social waters myself.  But I wanted to share some of my own reactions and insights to help add to the content presented that night, particularly:

1. Why most of us don’t seem to get  Social Media
2. Why we are looking at Social Media the wrong way
3. Why we need to consider our target
4. Why we have a Social Media-friendly product
5. What this means for ROI
